Dallas has wasted little time reshaping its roster since hiring executive Masai Ujiri, executing a series of offseason moves aimed at surrounding reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg with younger, longer and more versatile talent.
The makeover began on draft night. Holding the ninth overall pick, the Mavericks selected Michigan center Morez Johnson Jr.. Later in the first round, Dallas traded up five spots to secure Spanish guard Sergio de Larrea, sending the No. 30 pick and two future second-round selections in return.
Activity continued when the Mavericks joined a six-team deal to acquire forward Santi Aldama and guard Marcus Sasser. The front office then obtained the NBA rights to Turkish wing Tarik Biberovic and immediately signed him.
Dallas also protected its own talent, matching the New York Knicks’ offer sheet for center Moussa Cisse. Another trade brought in former No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher from the Atlanta Hawks, further boosting the club’s youth and size.
League sources say the Mavericks are still monitoring trade possibilities for Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford, while veteran guard Klay Thompson has reportedly appeared in preliminary discussions despite remaining under contract with Golden State.
The current roster features Kyrie Irving, expected back from a torn ACL, along with holdovers Dereck Lively II, P.J. Washington, Max Christie, Naji Marshall and Caleb Martin. With Ujiri steering personnel decisions, Dallas signals a clear intention to enter training camp with a retooled lineup built to develop alongside Flagg.
