ATLANTA — The Hawks, Thunder and Mavericks completed a three-team deal Sunday that moved veteran guard Luguentz “Lu” Dort from Oklahoma City to Atlanta and sent former No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher to Dallas.
Hawks Fortify the Perimeter
Atlanta receives Dort and rookie guard Ryan Nembhard, giving head coach Quin Snyder an additional proven wing defender to pair with offseason addition Aaron Wiggins. Dort, 25, was a starter on the Thunder’s 2025 championship squad and is widely regarded for his physical on-ball defense, though his offense remains a question mark. The deal signals the Hawks’ intent to prioritize immediate help over the longer development timeline of Risacher, the top selection in the 2024 draft.
Thunder Look Internally for Replacements
Oklahoma City parts with Dort but maintains depth on the wing. Second-year guard Cason Wallace, who started 58 games last season and earned All-Defensive honors, is expected to move into the opening alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein. Rookie Ajay Mitchell, who averaged 13.6 points in college, could be an alternative if the Thunder want extra scoring in the first unit.
Mavericks Offer Risacher a Fresh Start
Dallas acquires Risacher after the 21-year-old averaged 12.6 points as a rookie but saw reduced minutes last season in Atlanta. The Mavericks are building around reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg and can ease Risacher into a developmental role while veterans Kyrie Irving, P.J. Washington and Dereck Lively II shoulder primary responsibilities. Dallas hopes the change of scenery will help the French forward rediscover the potential that made him the top pick.
The trade leaves all three organizations with clarified priorities: Atlanta adds immediate defensive grit, Oklahoma City trusts its bench depth, and Dallas bets on upside without immediate pressure.
