LAS VEGAS — First-round pick Dailyn Swain endured a difficult debut at NBA Summer League, finishing his four games with 4.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 28.0 minutes per night. The No. 15 overall selection converted just 4-of-31 from the floor (12.9%) and missed all seven three-point attempts.
Chicago asked the 21-year-old to operate as its primary playmaker, a role he admitted weighed on him mentally. “It’s really easy to notice when I’m in my own head and putting pressure on myself,” Swain said. “I just try to stick with what I know and not get too discouraged … All the older guys are like, ‘Listen, you can’t have the weight of the world on your shoulders.’ They’ve made it so much easier to keep my head up.”
Wilson posts big numbers despite flaws
No. 4 overall pick Caleb Wilson delivered 23.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.2 steals across 27.7 minutes in his four appearances. The former North Carolina forward hit 41.9% of his 7.8 three-point tries per game, though he struggled at the line (4-of-12) and averaged 5.2 turnovers. “I love this [expletive]. I’m going to play as much as I can,” Wilson said, adding that he plans to suit up whenever he’s healthy because “people come from all over the world to see me play.”
Essengue, Sellers round out Chicago notes
Second-year center Noa Essengue, a 2025 lottery pick, impressed defensively but failed to leave a mark on offense. Two-way guard Jaylin Sellers showed no hesitation in looking for his own shot; coaches want him to adjust to a lower-usage role to earn minutes during the regular season.
