Los Angeles, CA — The Los Angeles Lakers have not yet filled the scouting and player-development assistant general manager position that general manager Rob Pelinka announced earlier this offseason, league sources told The Athletic.
Pelinka originally outlined plans to hire two new assistant GMs. The franchise brought in Rohan Ramadas to oversee strategy and analytics, but the role dedicated to talent evaluation remains vacant. According to the report, the club pursued Minnesota Timberwolves executive Steve Senior and Philadelphia 76ers executive Prosper Karangwa but was unable to lure either away from their current teams.
Interviews for the post began before the NBA playoffs concluded and are ongoing. The vacancy draws additional attention with the 2026 NBA Draft approaching, a period when scouting responsibilities intensify.
Additional Front-Office Voices
Recent additions include former Virginia head coach Tony Bennett as a draft consultant and increased input from Dodgers president Andrew Friedman, Giants president Farhan Zaidi, and longtime advisor Lon Rosen. Despite the change in ownership to Mark Walter, veteran executive Kurt Rambis — a trusted figure for team governor Jeanie Buss and Pelinka — continues to be involved, sources said.
Draft Workouts Underway
The Lakers have hosted a broad range of prospects ahead of the June draft, most recently evaluating Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie.
The organization had hoped to complete its front-office restructuring before draft preparations intensified, but the search for a scouting-focused assistant GM remains open as offseason activity accelerates.
