Former Kansas standout Darryn Peterson said Monday he is not trying to avoid any franchise ahead of Tuesday’s NBA Draft, pushing back on reports that he hopes to slip past clubs near the top of the order.
“Just a decision that was made,” Peterson told reporters regarding his choice to work out only for the Washington Wizards, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. “I’m definitely not dodging any team. Whoever takes me, I’m going to come in and be delighted to be there. Wherever that happens to be, they’ll get the best me.”
Last week, multiple outlets reported that Peterson’s representatives preferred Washington, which owns the No. 1 pick, and were trying to avoid the Utah Jazz at No. 2 if the guard was not selected first overall.
The Wizards pick first, followed by the Jazz and the Memphis Grizzlies at No. 3. Peterson remains widely projected as a top-three selection.
With draft night approaching, the 6-foot-5 prospect emphasized that he does not intend to shape the board. “I’m here for whoever calls my name,” he said.
