The Washington Wizards have reached a four-year maximum contract agreement worth about $212 million with guard Trae Young, according to Josh Robbins of The Athletic.

The deal, which includes a player option for the fourth season, was completed shortly after Young declined a $48.97 million player option for 2026-27 and formally entered free agency.

League executives had widely anticipated Young’s return to Washington. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently reported the four-time All-Star was expected to stay with the franchise after a productive late-season stretch following last year’s trade from Atlanta.

Young opted for a contract length similar to offers he could have received on the open market rather than the longer five-year maximum the Wizards could have provided, giving him greater flexibility later in his career.

Washington views the 25-year-old playmaker as a cornerstone alongside Anthony Davis and Tuesday’s No. 1 overall draft pick. Despite being limited to 15 games last season due to injuries, Young entered free agency coming off a campaign in which he averaged 24.2 points and a career-best 11.6 assists.

The new agreement removes one of the biggest names from this summer’s free-agent market and solidifies the Wizards’ core for the immediate future.
