The Los Angeles Lakers have brought in Dominic Samangy to serve as a basketball analyst, continuing the franchise’s offseason push to deepen its analytics resources. Samangy announced the move on social media on June 22, 2026, writing that he was “honored to be joining the Los Angeles Lakers organization.”

Samangy arrives after spending time with the New Orleans Pelicans, where he worked across in-game coaching adjustments, analytical infrastructure development and front-office operations such as draft preparation and trade discussions. His résumé also includes stints with the University of Arkansas and Syracuse University men’s basketball programs.

Since Mark Walter became the Lakers’ majority owner, the club has invested heavily in off-court infrastructure. Vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka outlined plans earlier this offseason to add two assistant general managers—one focused on data and analytics and another on the draft and player development. The team already hired former Pelicans staffer Rohan Ramadas to run the analytics arm and is still searching for the second assistant GM.

Samangy is expected to contribute immediately to preparations for the 2026 NBA Draft, which takes place Tuesday and Wednesday. Los Angeles owns the No. 25 pick, and league executives anticipate the team could target a center if it keeps the selection.
