The Chicago Bulls have secured veteran big man Zach Collins on a two-year, $17 million contract extension, the team confirmed late Tuesday night.

ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the agreement, noting that Priority Sports agent Mark Bartelstein and Chicago’s front office completed negotiations in recent days to prevent the 6-11 forward/center from reaching free agency. The second season carries a team option, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network.

Collins, 28, endured an injury-marred 2025/26 campaign. A right toe sprain sidelined him after Dec. 27, and subsequent surgery ended his season shortly after the All-Star break. He had already missed the first six weeks with a wrist issue, limiting him to 10 appearances at 9.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

The agreement represents a pay cut from the two-year, $34.8 million extension he signed with San Antonio in 2023. In Chicago, Collins is expected to back up newly acquired center Nic Claxton and lottery pick Caleb Wilson in the frontcourt.

Since entering the league with Portland in 2017, Collins has played 388 regular-season games, averaging 8.0 points and 4.9 rebounds across 18.9 minutes.

Finalizing the extension before July keeps Collins trade-eligible throughout the offseason but reduces Chicago’s available cap space to an estimated $23.7 million, per Spotrac contributor Keith Smith.
