LeBron James has directed agent Rich Paul to notify all interested clubs that he is willing to hear their presentations as free agency approaches, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported.
The four-time MVP informed the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday that he will not return for a ninth season, ending an eight-year tenure that produced the 2020 NBA championship. James, 41, plans to weigh multiple offers and is not expected to make a quick decision, according to the report.
Potential sign-and-trade arrangements remain on the table if the Lakers choose to cooperate. League observers have identified the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat as possible landing spots, while The Athletic added the Minnesota Timberwolves to the list of suitors.
James spent the period following the Lakers’ playoff exit considering whether to continue playing before committing to a record 24th NBA season. The structure and size of his next contract are uncertain, especially because many interested teams have limited salary-cap flexibility.
