PHILADELPHIA — Free-agent forward Dean Wade has accepted a four-year, $39 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
The agreement ends Wade’s seven-season run with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where the 27-year-old developed into a versatile defensive option while shooting 36.7 percent from beyond the arc.
League sources said several contenders pursued Wade when free agency opened, but Philadelphia was viewed as a frontrunner throughout the process. The Cavaliers were interested in retaining him but faced salary-cap constraints as they worked to stay under the NBA’s second tax apron.
The move reunites Wade with new 76ers president of basketball operations Mike Gansey. Gansey spent 15 years in Cleveland’s front office—most recently as general manager—and was part of the group that originally signed Wade after he went undrafted out of Kansas State in 2019.
Although never a high-volume scorer, Wade earned a regular spot in Cleveland’s rotation for his ability to guard multiple positions, knock down timely three-pointers and handle what coaches often describe as “dirty-work” assignments. The Philadelphia contract is the largest of his career.
