Contract Options Complicate New Deals for Ellis, Porzingis and Williams

Brooklyn, NY — The Nets have reached a two-year, $18 million agreement with guard Keon Ellis featuring an unprecedented double option for the 2027/28 season, according to The Athletic. Ellis will earn $9 million in 2026/27 and could secure the same salary the following year if either he or Brooklyn exercises their respective option. Should both parties decline, Ellis would enter free agency in 2027. The contract cannot be finalized before July 6 while the league reviews the unusual clause.

Porzingis Lands Partially Guaranteed Extension

The Warriors and Kristaps Porzingis have finalized a two-year, $40 million extension that carries only $3 million in guarantees each season, ESPN reports. His $20 million salary for 2026/27 becomes fully guaranteed on July 7, 2026. If the 7-foot-3 forward opts into his $20 million player option for 2027/28, Golden State could waive him by July 7, 2027 and owe just $3 million. The deal keeps Porzingis trade-eligible because it falls within extend-and-trade limits.

Williams’ Guarantees Tied to Games Played

Trail Blazers center Robert Williams has accepted a three-year, $44 million extension, but only the first season is fully guaranteed. Year two carries a $5 million partial guarantee that converts to the full amount if Williams appears in at least 50 games during 2026/27, while the third season is non-guaranteed and vests under the same 50-game threshold for 2027/28.

All three agreements showcase increasingly creative contract structures as teams seek greater roster flexibility.
