Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves says he has teammate Luka Doncic’s number in nearly every competitive setting—unless they step onto a basketball court.
During a recent appearance on the “Pardon My Take” podcast, Reaves recalled spending New Year’s Eve at Doncic’s Los Angeles home, which features a private bowling alley. “We ended up bowling until like 5:30 in the morning,” Reaves said. “He can’t beat me… you can’t even beat me in your own house, that’s pretty sad.”
Bowling is not the only off-court contest tilted in Reaves’ favor. The 25-year-old guard told hosts he is also undefeated against Doncic in ping-pong, darts and shuffleboard. “The one thing he can probably beat me at—the one I need to care about more—is basketball,” Reaves admitted.
The lighthearted trash talk highlights the growing bond between the two stars, who joined forces after Doncic’s 2025 blockbuster trade to Los Angeles. Their chemistry helped the Lakers post 53 wins last season as the franchise transitioned to a new era built around the high-scoring backcourt.
Reaves also shared an anecdote about first-year head coach JJ Redick. According to the guard, the former sharpshooter becomes unsettled on the golf course whenever his shadow hovers near the ball. “Just mention it and his brain will start spinning,” Reaves said with a laugh.
The Lakers have both Doncic and Reaves under contract for at least two more seasons, leaving plenty of time for more on-court highlights—and off-court bragging rights.
