Only four franchises remain in the hunt for the 2026 NBA championship, and each is now four victories away from a trip to the NBA Finals. The Western Conference Finals open Monday, May 18, when the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder host the No. 2 San Antonio Spurs. One night later, the New York Knicks welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers to Madison Square Garden for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Western Conference Finals: Thunder vs. Spurs
Game 1 tips off Monday, May 18, at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBA on NBC. Oklahoma City enters the series undefeated in the postseason after sweeping the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. The reigning champions are led by back-to-back Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, with support from Jalen Williams and rookie guard Ajay Mitchell.
San Antonio, back in the conference finals for the first time since 2017, eliminated the Portland Trail Blazers in five games and the Minnesota Timberwolves in six. Rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama powered the Spurs to four wins in five regular-season meetings with Oklahoma City and will renew his budding rivalry with Thunder center Chet Holmgren. Spurs perimeter starters Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper will try to counter the Thunder’s experienced wing rotation.
The conference finalists will play every other night, providing fans with nightly playoff action as long as the series lasts.
Eastern Conference Finals: Knicks vs. Cavaliers
Game 1 is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Knicks have won seven straight postseason games, defeating the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers by an average margin of 26.4 points. Point guard Jalen Brunson and mid-season addition Karl-Anthony Towns have paced New York’s surge as the franchise seeks its first Finals berth since 1999.
Cleveland advanced by winning back-to-back seven-game series. All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell has carried the scoring load while forward Evan Mobley has found consistent form in the frontcourt. New York captured two of the three regular-season meetings, though only one occurred after the trade deadline.
As in the West, the East finalists will receive just one off-day between games throughout the series.
