Warriors Reportedly Positioning Themselves as Potential LeBron James Destination

The Golden State Warriors are being discussed as a plausible offseason landing spot for LeBron James, according to longtime team insider Tim Kawakami.

Kawakami said the franchise could become a “live option” for the four-time MVP if it manages to open enough salary-cap space to extend the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, projected at roughly $15.1 million. “If they maneuver their roster and payroll just enough, the Warriors could offer LeBron the $15.1 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception,” he noted, adding that internal planning for such a scenario “has already started.”

The remarks stop short of indicating that James intends to exit the Los Angeles Lakers, and Kawakami emphasized that a return to Los Angeles remains the most likely outcome. The Lakers possess the strongest financial tools to retain the veteran forward, who turns 42 next season and has not yet announced whether he will continue playing, retire, or explore free agency.

Still, the possibility of pairing James with Stephen Curry intrigues league observers. The two stars won Olympic gold together with Team USA in Paris and have routinely expressed mutual admiration. Golden State is expected to remain in win-now mode as it seeks to maximize Curry’s championship window.

Whether preliminary interest between James and the Warriors gains traction will be one of the key storylines as the NBA offseason unfolds.
