The Philadelphia 76ers have begun searching for a new executive to replace former president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, and two names gaining traction are Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey and Phoenix Mercury GM Nick U’Ren, according to Marc Stein.

Gansey, a Cavaliers staffer since 2011, rose from a seasonal basketball operations assistant to GM in 2022 after stints as director of G League operations, GM of the Canton Charge and assistant GM. He was honored as NBAGL Executive of the Year in 2017 and has drawn interest from other clubs, most recently interviewing with the Chicago Bulls before they hired Bryson Graham.

U’Ren worked in video and scouting roles with the Phoenix Suns and Mercury from 2009-14 before joining the Golden State Warriors in 2014. During nine seasons in Golden State, he served as manager of advance scouting, special assistant to the head coach and director of basketball operations, winning four NBA titles. He returned to Phoenix as Mercury GM following the 2023 WNBA season, presiding over a turnaround from a 9-31 record in 2023 to a 27-17 campaign and WNBA Finals appearance in 2025.

Other individuals linked to Philadelphia’s vacancy include 76ers consultant Neil Olshey, Oklahoma City Thunder executive Vince Rozman—a former Sixers staffer—and current assistant GM Jameer Nelson, who could see his responsibilities grow internally.

The incoming executive is expected to oversee day-to-day basketball operations with considerable autonomy. Bob Myers, president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, said last week he will still participate in high-level decisions.
