The Los Angeles Lakers have placed acquiring a true lob-threat center at the top of their offseason agenda, aiming to enhance Luka Doncic’s effectiveness in the pick-and-roll, according to The Athletic.
Reporters Dan Woike and Sam Amick noted that team decision-makers want a big man who can finish above the rim, protect the paint and stay healthy throughout the postseason—attributes they believe were missing during this year’s second-round exit.
The front office is expected to explore both the trade market and free agency. League sources told The Athletic that possible targets include Jarrett Allen, Isaiah Hartenstein, Mitchell Robinson and Jalen Duren, each viewed as capable of providing the vertical spacing Doncic previously enjoyed in Dallas alongside Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II.
Los Angeles hopes that pairing Doncic with a reliable roll man will reopen lanes for the star guard and create additional scoring opportunities for the rest of the roster.
