Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown is increasingly uneasy with the organization’s handling of his future as trade speculation swirls, according to a report from Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

Uncertainty After 56-Win Season

Himmelsbach’s report states that Brown’s frustration mounted after he helped Boston reach 56 victories while co-star Jayson Tatum missed a large portion of the season recovering from a torn Achilles. Despite Brown’s performance, the Celtics have not provided public assurances about his long-term status.

Active Trade Discussions

League sources told Himmelsbach that Boston continues to receive calls about Brown ahead of Tuesday’s opening of NBA free agency. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP’s name surfaced prominently last week when the Celtics tried to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. That bid failed, with Antetokounmpo ultimately joining the Miami Heat, but it intensified questions about Brown’s role in Boston’s plans.

Stevens Stops Short of Guarantee

Team president of basketball operations Brad Stevens declined last week to guarantee Brown would remain on the roster next season. It remains unclear whether the club is proactively shopping the 27-year-old or merely listening to offers.

Path Forward Remains Open

One league source quoted in the Globe story believes Brown could still return, though the sides may need “candid conversations” following what has been labeled a rocky offseason. While a trade before free agency would clarify Boston’s roster, Himmelsbach reported that the Celtics do not feel compelled to strike a deal on that timeline.

Missing out on Antetokounmpo leaves Boston weighing whether moving Brown would set the team back in the short term unless another major opportunity emerges. For now, the All-Star’s future in green remains unresolved.
