The New York Knicks selected shooting guard Cameron Carr with the 24th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft but immediately agreed to send the Baylor product to the Los Angeles Lakers, one spot up the board at No. 25, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. New York receives cash considerations in the exchange.
Carr, 6-foot-5, emerged as a first-round prospect after transferring from Tennessee to Baylor for the 2025-26 season. Starting all 34 games, he averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 blocks while shooting 49.4 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from three and 80.1 percent at the foul line. His performance earned All-Big 12 Third Team honors.
The 21-year-old boosted his draft stock at the May combine in Chicago, posting a 7-0.75 wingspan, a 43-inch max vertical and the fastest time in the pro lane agility drill. Observers rated him among the top performers in the week’s opening scrimmage.
Carr is the son of former NBA guard Chris Carr, who logged nearly 300 regular-season appearances from 1995 to 2001.
Los Angeles has sought additional athleticism on the wing beyond LeBron James. Carr brings above-the-rim finishing, spot-up shooting potential and flashes as a help-side rim protector, though the Lakers expect his defense to develop with added strength and experience. The club currently lists Jake LaRavia, Dalton Knecht and Adou Thiero as its only other contracted wings.
By absorbing Carr’s rookie deal and sending out cash, the Lakers trigger a hard cap at the second apron for 2026-27, notes Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron. Team officials do not anticipate that threshold hindering future roster moves.
