The San Antonio Spurs acquired the No. 26 pick from the Denver Nuggets on draft night and selected UConn center Tarris Reed, moving up from No. 35 in a package that included two future second-round selections.

Denver will receive San Antonio’s No. 35 choice, Minnesota’s 2028 second-rounder, and Sacramento’s 2031 second-round pick, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Reed, 6-foot-11 and turning 23 in August, averaged 14.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.0 blocks in 27.3 minutes during his senior year at UConn. Before transferring in 2024, he spent two seasons at Michigan. Reed posted four double-doubles in the most recent NCAA Tournament, highlighted by a 31-point, 27-rebound performance against Furman and a 26-point outing versus top-seeded Duke in the Elite Eight. The Huskies advanced to the national championship game, where they fell to Michigan.

Scouting reports describe Reed as a traditional interior presence who protects the rim and rebounds effectively but offers little perimeter shooting or switch defense.

Earlier in the night, San Antonio selected Kentucky’s Jayden Quaintance at No. 20. The 18-year-old center, however, may miss the start of his rookie season after revealing that his surgically repaired knee still requires a second procedure. With Quaintance’s timeline uncertain, Reed is expected to provide immediate depth behind Victor Wembanyama and Luke Kornet.
