SAN ANTONIO — Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is on track to play Monday night in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs, league sources told ESPN. The decision will hinge on a final pre-game evaluation, but the club anticipates he will be available unless a late setback occurs.

The 22-year-old has spent the past nine days rehabbing a hyperextended left knee and bone bruise suffered in the first round. Initial team projections pointed to a possible Game 3 return, yet Edwards accelerated the timeline through round-the-clock treatment and light on-court work over the weekend.

He participated in Minnesota’s morning shootaround at Frost Bank Center, wearing a sleeve on the injured knee and executing quick dribble step-backs during his post-shootaround shooting routine.

“I’m on record calling him a Wolverine,” forward Julius Randle said. “He takes a hard fall, you think he’s really hurt, and then he just gets up.”

While Edwards appears ready, Minnesota ruled out guard Ayo Dosunmu for Game 1 because of persistent right calf soreness. Dosunmu scored 43 points in Game 5 of the previous series against the Denver Nuggets but missed Game 6, which the Timberwolves won to advance.

The Spurs, who finished the regular season 62-20, host the opener of the best-of-seven series Monday night.
