Minneapolis — Asked about the possibility of LeBron James joining the Minnesota Timberwolves, All-Star guard Anthony Edwards said the scenario is not on the four-time MVP’s reported shortlist.
“I have nothing to say about it because I’ve seen his top three teams. We’re not in it,” Edwards told fans during a Q&A session at Fanatics Fest on July 18, 2026. The comment was captured in a video posted by reporter Kyle Ingram.
Unofficial front-runners
Multiple betting markets and media reports have identified the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat as the leading contenders for James should the 39-year-old enter free agency. The Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets have also been mentioned, along with Minnesota, but none of the speculation has been confirmed by James or his agent, Rich Paul.
James keeps plans private
James appeared twice on stage at Fanatics Fest to record separate podcasts but offered no update on his future. “We do not have an announcement to make just yet,” he said on Friday, according to ESPN’s Kalan Hooks.
James, a 20-time All-Star and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, can enter free agency by declining his player option for the 2026-27 season.
