The Dallas Mavericks have signed forward Tobi Lawal to a two-way deal, the club announced on social media.

Dallas chose the former Virginia Tech standout with the No. 48 selection in last week’s draft. The 6’8” London native spent two seasons at VCU before transferring to Virginia Tech for the 2024-25 campaign. Over two years with the Hokies, the 23-year-old averaged 12.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 27.6 minutes, shooting 55.2% from the field, 31.8% from three and 69.6% at the foul line.

Lawal impressed scouts at the combine by topping the charts in both standing vertical leap (40″) and max vertical leap (45.5″). While considered a raw offensive prospect without much self-creation, he is viewed as an explosive rim-runner and lob threat, particularly in transition.

The two-way contract is non-guaranteed and does not count against the salary cap. Lawal will earn $679,000 in 2026-27—half of the rookie minimum—and can be active for up to 50 regular-season games. He would be ineligible for the postseason unless converted to a standard NBA contract.
