Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura will travel to Singapore later this month to take part in the NBA Rising Stars Invitational, a week-long high school basketball tournament scheduled for June 23-28 at OCBC Arena.

Hachimura is listed among several special guests for the event, joining former Lakers guards Mitch Richmond and Jeremy Lin, along with Australian Basketball Hall of Famer Lauren Jackson. The group is slated to participate in fan meet-and-greet sessions, a coaches clinic on June 24, and multiple community programs, including Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA clinics plus a “Her Time To Play” leadership panel.

Born in Toyama, Japan, Hachimura is the first Japanese-born player to reach the NBA and remains one of the league’s most prominent figures in Asia. His appearance in Singapore comes shortly before a pivotal offseason: the 28-year-old forward will enter unrestricted free agency after a season in which he set a Lakers single-season record for three-point accuracy and boosted his scoring during the playoffs while shooting 56.9 percent from long range.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick recently expressed satisfaction with Hachimura’s growth, noting the forward is experiencing the best stretch of his career.

The NBA Rising Stars Invitational will feature top high school teams from around the region, providing young athletes a chance to compete and interact with current and former professional players.
