Sportsbooks Keep Knicks as Heavy Underdogs for Game 2 After Game 1 Shock

Despite New York’s surprising victory over San Antonio in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, major sportsbooks opened wagering for Game 2 with the Knicks listed as sizable underdogs.

The opening line, released early Tuesday, reflects bookmakers’ belief that the defending champion Spurs will bounce back on their home court. New York’s upset on Sunday snapped San Antonio’s seven-game postseason winning streak, yet oddsmakers were unmoved, installing the Spurs as clear favorites for Wednesday night’s matchup at Frost Bank Center.

New York entered the series as a long shot and was priced similarly before tip-off of Game 1. Sunday’s 109-104 win—sealed by a late three-pointer from Jalen Brunson—shifted the series price but did not erase skepticism about the Knicks’ ability to win consecutive road games against San Antonio’s experienced roster.

Tip-off for Game 2 is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. The series shifts to Madison Square Garden for Games 3 and 4 later this week.
