The Philadelphia 76ers have named Mike Gansey president of basketball operations, the club confirmed Monday in an official release.
Gansey, 41, takes over the front office less than three months after the dismissal of former chief executive Daryl Morey. He arrives from the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he spent roughly 15 years and was promoted to general manager in 2022 under president of basketball operations Koby Altman following a five-season stint as assistant GM.
“Today’s announcement of the hiring of Mike Gansey is an important step in our desire to take the Philadelphia 76ers to the next level,” managing partner Josh Harris said. “Mike has built a reputation as a tremendous leader and relentless worker who has a sharp eye for basketball talent.”
Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment president of sports Bob Myers, who helped lead the search, added that Gansey “commands respect, has an impressive basketball IQ, and is well respected across players, coaches, and fellow executives.”
In his own statement, Gansey thanked Altman, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, and the entire Cleveland organization while expressing enthusiasm for his new role. “This organization, much like the City of Philadelphia, is deeply rooted in its history and passion, and I am extremely excited to get started,” he said. “The work begins immediately as we position ourselves for the draft, free agency, next season, and beyond.”
The team will introduce Gansey at a press conference Monday at 10:00 a.m. ET.
