The Los Angeles Lakers have filled one of their two vacant assistant general manager positions, reaching an agreement with former New Orleans Pelicans vice president of strategy and operations Rohan Ramadas, according to multiple reports.
Ramadas will oversee strategy, salary-cap management and analytics, mirroring the responsibilities he handled in New Orleans. A Pelicans source told ESPN that Ramadas is “a literal rocket scientist,” a reference to the 10-plus years he spent at the Aerospace Corporation after graduating from the University of Southern California.

During his tenure with the Pelicans, Ramadas introduced artificial-intelligence tools and coded models designed to support basketball operations decisions. The Lakers plan to leverage similar systems as they expand an analytics department that had been considered understaffed in recent seasons.
