Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schroder recently spoke publicly about his ongoing friction with Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic, describing their confrontations as competitive but bounded by mutual respect.
During a live stream with content creator N3on, Schroder revisited Germany’s 2025 FIBA EuroBasket quarterfinal victory over Doncic’s Slovenia. The German captain noted that despite Doncic’s 43-point performance, Germany advanced and eventually captured the tournament title. “Great player,” Schroder said. “We were battling. He had like 43, we won the game though.”
The pair’s rivalry resurfaced last NBA season when Schroder, then with the Kings and later the Cleveland Cavaliers, faced Doncic three times. Following one of those matchups, reports surfaced that Schroder slapped Doncic in a hallway altercation outside the teams’ locker rooms. Neither player publicly detailed the incident at the time.
Schroder explained that their trash talk occasionally crossed a line. “When you talk, you can talk and talk, but when it gets to a stage where I have to check you, then I’m gonna check you,” he said, adding that both men are fathers and should keep disputes from becoming personal.
Doncic has not responded to Schroder’s latest comments. Both guards are known for their fiery on-court demeanor, a trait that has led to several physical and verbal exchanges during international play and NBA competition.
