HOUSTON — The Los Angeles Lakers travel to Texas holding a 2–0 advantage in their best-of-seven playoff series against the Houston Rockets, a position few expected after injuries sidelined Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves indefinitely.
LeBron James, who has guided Los Angeles to convincing wins in the first two games, warned that the job is far from finished.
“It means nothing,” James said. “Series are not won until you win four. Our only mindset is Game 3.”
The veteran forward emphasized recovery after Tuesday’s physical contest. The Lakers have Wednesday off before flying to Houston on Thursday and taking the court at Toyota Center on Friday.
James owns the NBA records for playoff victories and series wins, giving weight to his reminder that confidence must be tempered with caution. Still, his performances — along with key contributions from Luke Kennard and Marcus Smart — have positioned Los Angeles to advance even without Doncic or Reaves, whose returns remain uncertain.
Guarding Durant remains priority
Los Angeles limited Kevin Durant to three points on 1-for-5 shooting after halftime in Game 2. James praised the defensive effort but said the Lakers cannot assume it will continue.
“No satisfaction,” he said. “The guy’s a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and he’s going to make way more great plays than not. It’s still a tall challenge — seven-foot tall, too.”
Game 3 tips off Friday night in Houston, where the Rockets will try to avoid falling into a 3–0 deficit.
