Second-year wing Adou Thiero has taken on an early leadership role with Cameron Carr, the Los Angeles Lakers’ first-round pick in 2026, as the team’s young core prepares for the upcoming season.
Speaking ahead of the Las Vegas Summer League, Thiero told reporters he has been sharing lessons learned from his own rookie year with the 24th overall selection. “I’m helping him out with some of the tips I found out,” Thiero said, noting that he did not have a similar guide last summer while recovering from knee surgery.
Both players delivered strong showings during offseason competition. In Las Vegas, Carr averaged 18.0 points and 2.3 rebounds, flashing potent scoring bursts in both the Vegas event and the California Classic. Thiero posted 15.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, highlighting his improved two-way play.
The Lakers, who have emphasized perimeter athleticism and defense, could look to either or both prospects for rotation minutes when the regular season begins. Team officials have pointed to the pair’s on-court chemistry and competitive drive as encouraging signs for their development.
The franchise had limited opportunities to cultivate young talent in recent years, but the emergence of Thiero and Carr gives Los Angeles two potential contributors under 23. With Thiero offering guidance that he lacked during his own first summer as a pro, the Lakers hope the partnership accelerates Carr’s adjustment to the NBA.
