The Los Angeles Lakers have expanded their search for a second assistant general manager to oversee player development and scouting, with Philadelphia 76ers player-personnel executive Prosper Karangwa emerging as a leading candidate, according to multiple league sources cited by Dan Woike of The Athletic.

Karangwa’s name surfaced publicly on May 25 and May 26, 2026, when Woike reported on social media that the Lakers had expressed interest and noted that other franchises are also involved in the pursuit. The 43-year-old former Siena University standout played professionally overseas before moving into NBA front-office work as a scout with the San Antonio Spurs and later the Orlando Magic.

Los Angeles filled its first assistant GM position earlier this month by hiring Rohan Ramadas—a former New Orleans Pelicans staffer with a decade of experience at the Aerospace Corporation—to run strategy and data systems. With the NBA Draft set for June and free agency opening shortly after, the Lakers aim to finalize their front-office structure quickly to coordinate decisions on a first-round pick and several key free agents.

General manager Rob Pelinka is expected to complete the hire in the coming weeks as the club seeks to strengthen its talent-evaluation department ahead of a pivotal offseason.
