Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse said he is eager to coach Jaylen Brown after years of scheming against the former Boston Celtics star. Speaking to reporters, Nurse called Brown “super competitive,” noting the wing’s NBA championship, Finals MVP award, two-way ability and prime form. “I think it’s amazing that he’s going to be a Sixer,” Nurse said.
Brown joins Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe on a roster packed with high-usage scorers. Nurse acknowledged the challenge of balancing touches but compared it to last season’s rotation issues when the club was healthy. He pointed to nightly role shifts, saying Edgecombe can move from fourth option to first depending on game circumstances.
Gansey Details Trade Talks
President of basketball operations Mike Gansey recounted the path to landing Brown during an interview on 97.5 FM The Fanatic in Philadelphia. Gansey said he initiated contact with Boston after hearing rumors that Brown could be available. “We kept talking to Boston for a couple weeks,” he explained. “Next thing you know, they wanted to do a deal. … We got lucky and are excited to have Jaylen.”
Wade Sees Defensive Niche
Free-agent forward Dean Wade, who spent the past seven seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, believes his defense makes him an ideal complement to the Sixers’ offense-heavy core. “I’ve got to play with that little chip on my shoulder,” Wade told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “You know how important you are on the defensive end, and you’ve got to do your job so everyone else can do their job.”
Outside Call to Move Embiid
In a separate analysis, Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron recommended that Philadelphia explore trading Embiid despite the center’s contract—three years and $187.9 million—being among the league’s hardest to move. Gozlan suggested Dallas as a potential partner, citing a hypothetical package of P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson and Caleb Martin.
The Sixers have not publicly responded to speculation about an Embiid trade as they continue offseason preparations under Nurse and Gansey.
