Chris Finch is expected to remain on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ bench next season, according to a report by Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. The 56-year-old coach is positioned to lead the club for a sixth full campaign in 2026-27 following the team’s recent playoff exit.

Finch has posted a 258-193 record since taking over in February 2021, a .572 winning percentage that includes postseason appearances every year under his direction. Minnesota reached the Western Conference finals in both 2024 and 2025.

This season, the Timberwolves duplicated last year’s 49-33 mark, entered the playoffs as the No. 6 seed, eliminated Denver in the opening round, and fell to San Antonio in the conference semifinals.

The coach has two years left on his current contract. After the elimination, he noted the gap between Minnesota and the West’s elite teams, saying, “You either gotta be a problem or have a solution. You have to be built in a way that troubles your opponent with something they don’t have or have something to counter what they do have.”

Stability at the top of the organization also appears likely. Owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez are interested in extending president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, while there is internal support for general manager Matt Lloyd, who was considered by Chicago before the Bulls hired Bryson Graham.
