Timberwolves Eyeing Kyrie Irving, Ja Morant as Possible Targets; Other Northwest Notes
Slug: timberwolves-interest-irving-morant-northwest-roundup
President of basketball operations Tim Connelly has expressed some level of interest in Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving and Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, according to Sam Amick and Eric Nehm of The Athletic. The report does not clarify whether the Minnesota Timberwolves considered the guards in the past or plan to pursue them during the upcoming offseason.
Both players would come with questions about availability. Irving is recovering from an ACL tear and is expected to have missed more than 18 months when the 2026-27 season begins. Morant has appeared in just 79 games over the past three campaigns and has dealt with injuries that have reduced his trademark explosiveness.
Edwards Battled Through Knee Injury
Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic detailed guard Anthony Edwards’ first-round knee injury and his unexpectedly quick return. Long-time friend Nick Maddox told the outlet, “This is the worst injury I’ve seen him deal with in his career … To see him bounce back and have that motivation, it speaks volumes.”
Isaiah Joe Posts Career Year
Thunder wing Isaiah Joe averaged a personal-best 11.1 points and shot 42.3% from three in 2025-26, but Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman noted that the 26-year-old did not secure steady playoff minutes. Viewed as a possible trade chip, Joe said he plans to quicken his release and extend his shooting range this summer.
Nuggets Offseason Outlook
Keith Smith of Spotrac projected that forward Peyton Watson could command roughly $27 million annually on his next contract. Smith also doubts Denver will seriously entertain offers for Jamal Murray or Aaron Gordon. HoopsRumors published its own Nuggets offseason preview on Thursday.
