Timberwolves’ Donte DiVincenzo to Undergo Surgery on Torn Right Achilles

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo will have surgery Sunday afternoon in New York after an MRI confirmed a ruptured right Achilles tendon, the team announced.

The injury occurred early in the first quarter of Saturday’s Game 4 win over the Denver Nuggets, when the 29-year-old left the court and did not return. ESPN’s Shams Charania initially reported the torn Achilles diagnosis.

Dr. Martin O’Malley, who performed a similar procedure on Jayson Tatum last year, is scheduled to handle DiVincenzo’s operation.

Key starter lost for playoff push

DiVincenzo, selected 17th overall in the 2018 draft, opened all 82 regular-season games for Minnesota in 2025-26. He averaged 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 30.4 minutes, hitting 37.9 percent from three-point range while providing reliable perimeter defense.

The Timberwolves now hold a 3-1 lead in the first-round series but finished Game 4 without both DiVincenzo and fellow starter Anthony Edwards, who is expected to miss several weeks with a left knee injury.

“Just proud of the guys, stepping up, fighting for each other—literally and figuratively,” head coach Chris Finch said after the victory. “These teams don’t like each other. You play each other this many times, everything’s at stake.”

Backup center Naz Reid said the team will carry the injured duo’s mindset into Monday’s potential close-out game in Minneapolis. “They’ll be with us. We know what it takes. It’s not going to be easy,” Reid remarked.

Contract status

DiVincenzo is entering the final season of his contract, worth roughly $12.5 million for 2026-27. He will reach unrestricted free agency next summer if no extension is signed beforehand.
