Virtus Bologna Lands Former First-Round Pick Wendell Moore Jr. On One-Year Deal

Virtus Bologna has reached a one-year agreement with guard Wendell Moore Jr., the Italian club announced Tuesday, securing the former NBA first-round selection after interest from several other European teams.
Moore, 24, entered the league as the 26th pick in the 2022 draft. He spent his first two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves before a 2024 offseason trade sent him to the Detroit Pistons. Detroit waived him in February 2025, and he finished that campaign on a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets. The Duke product returned to the Pistons last November and remained on a two-way deal for most of the 2025-26 season.
Across 96 NBA appearances with three franchises, the 6-5 shooting guard averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.2 minutes, shooting .464 from the field, .246 from three-point range and .828 at the foul line. His offensive production improved in the G League, where he posted 19.6 points per game on .509/.388/.808 shooting in 34 contests last season for the Maine Celtics and Motor City Cruise.
Without further two-way eligibility, Moore would have needed a standard NBA roster spot to stay stateside this fall. Instead, he will make his EuroLeague debut with Virtus.
The Bologna club finished 14-24 in EuroLeague play last season but topped Italy’s Lega Basket Serie A regular-season standings at 23-5 before falling to Reyer Venezia in the playoff semifinals. Moore becomes Virtus’s third NBA veteran addition of the offseason, joining forwards Bobi Klintman and Kessler Edwards.
