The Miami Heat have emerged as serious suitors for Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson as the franchise continues an aggressive offseason overhaul, the Miami Herald reported.
The Heat’s pursuit of the 36-year-old veteran is said to be independent of their ongoing efforts to sign free-agent forward LeBron James. Miami already made a headline move earlier this summer by acquiring two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and remains linked to James, who is still on the market.
Thompson is entering the final season of his contract and is set to earn $17.5 million in 2026-27. After 11 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, the five-time All-Star joined Dallas in 2024. He averaged 11.7 points while shooting 38.3 percent from beyond the arc across 69 games last season.
Dallas is reshaping its roster around reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg and the return of Kyrie Irving, who missed all of last season recovering from a torn ACL. Whether Thompson fits into the Mavericks’ long-term plans remains uncertain.
