President Trump says he will attend a Knicks NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden

Former President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, that he intends to be in the crowd for at least one NBA Finals matchup at Madison Square Garden after receiving an invitation from New York Knicks owner James Dolan.
“I was invited to go on Wednesday (against Cleveland, had there been a Game 5), but they closed it out very quickly,” Trump told reporters, according to the New York Post. “Jim Dolan’s a great guy—he’s having a great year. What a team.”
The Knicks secured their first Finals berth since 1999 by sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers 4–0 in the Eastern Conference finals, following an earlier series victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. Because the sweep eliminated the need for a Game 5, Trump did not attend during that round.
“I think I’ll be going to one of the Finals games,” he added. “I was invited by numerous people, and Jim. Great to see it. The Knicks have suffered for years. They’re doing great right now.”
New York is awaiting the Western Conference champion. The Oklahoma City Thunder hold a 3–2 lead over the San Antonio Spurs heading into Game 6 on Thursday in San Antonio.
