Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce clarified that a widely shared image appearing to show him and Taylor Swift courtside at a New York Knicks playoff game was not real and explained why the couple ultimately missed the matchup at Madison Square Garden.
Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of his podcast, Kelce said the photo, which went viral on social media earlier this week, had been digitally altered. “That picture wasn’t us,” he told listeners, adding that neither he nor Swift attended the contest.
Kelce explained that the pair had considered making the trip to New York but scheduling conflicts forced them to scrap the idea. He did not elaborate on specific obligations preventing the visit, noting only that “timing just didn’t work out.”
The fake image showed Swift in a white Knicks jersey and Kelce in a team jacket, sparking speculation that the singer and the Super Bowl champion had quietly slipped into the arena for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Fans quickly circulated the photo across X, Instagram and TikTok before several users pointed out clues indicating it had been edited.
Kelce said he and Swift hope to catch a game at the Garden in the future. “We’d love to experience that atmosphere together,” he said. “It just has to line up with both our schedules.”
