The Portland Trail Blazers enter the 2026 offseason in an unexpectedly strong position after finishing the 2025-26 campaign above .500 and reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
The turnaround followed an offseason that initially appeared bleak. Veteran guard Damian Lillard, re-acquired last summer, missed the entire season while recovering from a torn Achilles. First-round pick Yang Hansen was considered a long-term project, and head coach Chauncey Billups was arrested in the season’s opening week in connection with a federal illegal-gambling probe. Assistant Tiago Splitter stepped in as interim coach after one game and guided the team the rest of the way.
Sixth-year forward Deni Avdija emerged as the centerpiece of Portland’s resurgence, earning his first All-Star selection and finishing as a finalist for Most Improved Player. Forward Toumani Camara played all 82 contests and solidified his reputation as a reliable two-way contributor, while Jerami Grant rebounded from a down 2024-25 season.
Veteran guard Jrue Holiday, acquired from Boston last summer, provided the steady backcourt presence Portland’s front office had envisioned. Second-year center Donovan Clingan established himself as the starting anchor in the paint, with Robert Williams supplying consistent minutes off the bench after an injury-plagued stretch.
With Lillard expected to return next fall, the Blazers still face several offseason questions. Portland conveyed the No. 15 overall pick to Chicago, lifting the lottery protection on a long-standing obligation but leaving the club without an additional first-rounder. Front-office executives must now determine whether to seek a consolidation trade for a star and how far new owner Tom Dundon is willing to extend payroll after a series of cost-cutting moves away from the court.
Roster stability could shape the early summer. Ten players hold guaranteed contracts for 2026-27, and minimum deals for Vit Krejci and Sidy Cissoko are non-guaranteed but team-friendly, effectively filling 12 of 15 spots before Portland even broaches the trade or free-agent markets.
