The Brooklyn Nets will decline their 2026-27 team options on center Day’Ron Sharpe and forward Josh Minott and instead sign both players to new two-year contracts, according to multiple reports.
Sharpe, 22, is expected to receive a two-year, $20 million agreement, league sources told Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Minott, 23, will ink a two-year, $9 million deal featuring a team option for the second season.
Sharpe Poised for Larger Role
A first-round pick in 2021, Sharpe will become Brooklyn’s longest-tenured player once the pending trade of Nic Claxton is finalized. Coming off the bench last season, he recorded career highs with 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 18.7 minutes per game while shooting 60.1% from the field. The Nets anticipate an expanded role for the 6-11 center but continue to explore additional frontcourt options and have been linked to Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson.
Minott’s Mid-Season Spark
Brooklyn acquired Minott midway through the campaign when Boston shed salary to stay under the luxury-tax threshold. Across 49 games (11 starts) split between the Celtics and Nets, the athletic wing averaged 7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 17.0 minutes, shooting .500 from the floor, .418 from three and .787 at the line. In 16 outings with the Nets, he produced 10.8 points in just 19.3 minutes per contest.
Cap Implications
The Nets could have retained Sharpe for $6.25 million and Minott for about $2.58 million by exercising their options but opted to secure both players long-term. Salary-cap analyst Yossi Gozlan projects Brooklyn will still have roughly $36 million in cap space, plus the room exception estimated at nearly $9.4 million, after the reported transactions.
