Pacers plan offseason push for wing scorer, stronger bench

The Indiana Pacers will spend the summer seeking more firepower for their second unit, especially from the wing position, general manager Chad Buchanan said.
Speaking with reporter Tony East of Forbes, Buchanan explained that the franchise’s offseason strategy was finalized well before the draft lottery and will not hinge on where the team lands on draft night. “One thing this season revealed for us is the need for some scoring off our bench—probably from the wing position,” he said.
The mid-season trade of Bennedict Mathurin exposed that shortfall and left the coaching staff looking for additional punch behind the starting lineup. “We still have some holes to fill,” Buchanan acknowledged.
Along with perimeter scoring, Indiana is open to upgrading its backup center spot. Front-office executives will explore both free agency and the trade market to address those needs.
