Miami — Giannis Antetokounmpo vowed to “do whatever it takes” to win after being formally introduced by the Heat on Thursday. The two-time MVP said he is “motivated a million percent” and welcomes the expectations that come with his move from Milwaukee.

“This is a place that comes with pressure, and I thrive under pressure,” Antetokounmpo told reporters, according to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. He added that he would be “very, very excited” if a path emerged for LeBron James to join him in South Florida, saying he could learn a great deal from the league’s all-time scoring leader.

Team president Pat Riley described the blockbuster acquisition as “nirvana for me,” recalling that he “yelled” and “screamed” once the trade was complete, The Athletic’s Eric Nehm reported. Head coach Erik Spoelstra highlighted the inclusion of Bobby Portis in the deal, citing the forward’s shooting, rebounding and defensive versatility.

Hornets address LaMelo Ball trade

Charlotte — Hornets president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson acknowledged fan frustration over the decision to move LaMelo Ball but said public opinion cannot dictate roster choices.

“When I ultimately made the decision to trade LaMelo, I knew it wasn’t going to go over well with a lot of the fanbase,” Peterson told Andscape’s Marc J. Spears. He added that leaning on outside voices can leave an organization “paralyzed.”

Nuggets finalize three veteran contracts

Denver — The Nuggets have signed free agents Tyus Jones, Alpha Diallo and Marvin Bagley III to guaranteed one-year veteran-minimum deals, according to Hoops Rumors. Diallo’s cap hit is lower because his agreement is based on the rookie minimum, but league tax rules assign the same luxury-tax and apron charge as Jones and Bagley.

All three players are expected to report to training camp on non-guaranteed agreements that convert to full guarantees once they remain on the roster past opening night.
