Victor Wembanyama is expected to return to the French national team for the next 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifying window in late August, according to L’Équipe. France faces Slovenia on August 27 and Sweden on August 30.

The reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year has resumed workouts in France with trainer Guillaume Alquier. Earlier this month, the 20-year-old center agreed to a five-year rookie-scale max extension with the San Antonio Spurs that will begin at 25 percent of the 2027-28 salary cap.

Player Moves Around Europe

• Former NBA wing Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot has left Baskonia and signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid, the two Spanish clubs announced. The 29-year-old averaged 18.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 47.6 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from three and 89.8 percent at the line in 36 EuroLeague games last season.

• Baskonia quickly filled the vacancy by adding Chris Duarte on a two-year deal. The Dominican wing, selected 13th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, spent last season with Unicaja in Liga Endesa and the Basketball Champions League.
