Giannis Antetokounmpo vowed to match Miami’s demanding culture after being formally introduced by the Heat on Thursday, declaring his motivation level at “a million percent” ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The two-time MVP told reporters in Miami that he thrives under pressure and is eager to work with head coach Erik Spoelstra. “I’m excited to be coached by Erik Spoelstra. I’m excited to be around the city,” Antetokounmpo said. “I want to win and I will do whatever it takes.”

Team president Pat Riley, who called the trade with Milwaukee “nirvana,” said he screamed in celebration when the deal was finalized. Riley added that the move fits the franchise’s “pursuit of excellence,” while Spoelstra said Antetokounmpo elevates the Heat’s championship aspirations.

Portis Seen as Key Piece

Riley noted that landing Bobby Portis, Antetokounmpo’s longtime Bucks teammate, was essential to completing the trade. Spoelstra praised Portis’ shooting, rebounding and defensive versatility, calling him “one of the best-shooting bigs in the league.”

Peterson Stands by Ball Trade

Charlotte Hornets president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson told Andscape he expected backlash after sending LaMelo Ball out of town in 2024. Peterson said “thick skin” is required for the job and emphasized the importance of avoiding paralysis by public opinion.

Agent Defends Trae Young Deal

Aaron Mintz, agent for Trae Young, defended the point guard’s four-year, $212.8 million contract with the Wizards in an interview with Fadeaway World. Mintz cited recent championship teams led by elite point guards and said Young’s fit alongside Anthony Davis and rookie Alex Sarr made the signing a “no-brainer.”

Hawks Secure Local TV Partner

The Atlanta Hawks reached a new broadcast agreement with Gray Media to air all non-national games in 2026/27 on WANF (Atlanta News First) and Peachtree Sports Network, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The deal fills the void left by Main Street Sports Group after FanDuel Sports Network ceased operations.
