NEW YORK — The NBA said Tuesday it is examining a federal indictment that accuses former guard Malik Beasley and former center Ed Davis of crimes tied to sports gambling.

“We are in the process of reviewing the federal indictment unsealed today involving Malik Beasley and Ed Davis,” league spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement. “We will continue to investigate this matter and cooperate with the relevant authorities. We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and the integrity of our game remains our top priority.”

Details of the charges

Federal prosecutors in New York charged Beasley with alleged sports betting, money laundering and wire fraud. Davis faces charges in the same case. According to The Athletic, the government claims the two worked with others to manipulate Beasley’s performances in multiple Milwaukee Bucks games during the 2023-24 season to influence wagers.

Responses from those involved

Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, told the Detroit Free Press that his client “looks forward to defending all charges.” The NBA’s own investigation remains active, the league said.

Recent playing history

Beasley, 29, last appeared in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons during the 2024-25 campaign before signing with Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico. Davis most recently played in the league during the 2021-22 season.

The league offered no timeline for completing its review.
