Milwaukee — Center Myles Turner described his first year with the Milwaukee Bucks as a “rude awakening,” acknowledging the unexpected challenges he faced after arriving in Wisconsin.

Turner, 27, said the transition demanded rapid adjustments on and off the court. Although he did not detail specific hurdles, the veteran big man admitted the learning curve was steeper than anticipated.

“It was definitely a rude awakening,” Turner said, adding that the Bucks’ system, expectations and nightly competition forced him to expand his game and mindset.

The 6-foot-11 rim protector joined Milwaukee prior to the season after spending his first seven NBA campaigns with the Indiana Pacers. Despite the early struggles, he emphasized that the experience ultimately pushed him to improve.

Turner finished the regular season appearing in 72 games for the Bucks. He averaged 12.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks while shooting 51.8 percent from the field.

The center said his focus now is on building chemistry with teammates and preparing for a deeper playoff run next year.
