Fans and executives hoping for clarity on LeBron James’ next destination will have to wait longer. ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin said on Tuesday’s edition of “SportsCenter” that a source told him “nothing happening today,” signaling no imminent announcement from the four-time NBA champion.
The update echoes comments made a day earlier by James’ agent, Rich Paul, on the “Game Over” podcast. Paul stressed that the 39-year-old forward will set his own timetable: “We’re not going to be rushed. It’s his choice to make, and when he makes the choice, he’ll make it.”
James became an unrestricted free agent three weeks ago after informing the Los Angeles Lakers he would not return. League observers continue to list the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat as the leading contenders, yet none of those teams has completed a major roster move since free agency opened.
According to Paul, every interested club has already presented its case, and there is no additional recruiting required while James weighs what he has called both a basketball and family decision. “There’s been several people to call and say, ‘Hey, Rich, is there anything more we should be doing?’” Paul said. “And my answer is, ‘No. We don’t need you to go above and beyond about anything. We understand it. It’s clear. All the messages have been sent.’”
With no deadline imposed, the NBA community remains on standby until James chooses his next team.
