Several Philadelphia players admitted they did not anticipate the club’s blockbuster move for Jaylen Brown. Rookie guard VJ Edgecombe said he feared he was the one being traded after executive Jameer Nelson called him repeatedly during free agency. “I was like, ‘Man, it’s free agency, why are you calling me so much?’ I thought I was gone,” Edgecombe told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Second-year wing Justin Edwards shared a similar reaction. “They were talking about Jaylen Brown and PG (Paul George), but I didn’t pay attention to it,” Edwards recalled. “Then I looked again. I’m like, ‘Oh, snap!’” Edwards phoned Tyrese Maxey only to learn the All-Star guard had been aware of the trade for several hours.
As noted by PhillyVoice, the deal diminishes Philadelphia’s supply of future first-round picks, limiting flexibility for additional major moves in the short term.
Knicks
Jalen Brunson said his recovery from recent wrist surgery remains on track. Speaking with Variety, the New York Knicks star explained he expects to keep his wrist in a cast for “about another month” before advancing to the next rehabilitation stage. Brunson revealed he played through substantial pain throughout the postseason because a damaged tendon repeatedly snapped over a wrist bone every time he shot. He credited playoff adrenaline for helping him finish the run before undergoing surgery earlier this month.
Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a two-way contract with Jamarion Sharp, a 7-foot-5 center who earned G League Defensive Player of the Year honors last season. Sharp averaged a league-leading 3.9 blocks with the Texas Legends and posted 7.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game during Summer League play. He is expected to bolster the frontcourt while fellow big man Yanic Konan Niederhauser continues to rehab from foot procedures.
