Michael Jordan’s two seasons with the Washington Wizards never reached the postseason, but the 14-time All-Star still wrote his name into the record book on three separate occasions.

Three milestones after 38

Dec. 29, 2001 — 51 points at 38: In his 29th game back, the 38-year-old guard poured in 51 points against the Charlotte Hornets, becoming the oldest player ever to record a 50-point outing at the time. The mark stood for nearly 20 years.

Feb. 21, 2003 — 43 points at 40: Less than a month after his 40th birthday, Jordan scored 43 against the New Jersey Nets. At 40 years and four days old, he became the oldest player to reach the 40-point plateau. His final line included 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals.

2002-03 season — 20.0 ppg at 40: During his final campaign, the veteran averaged exactly 20.0 points while appearing in all 82 games. No player before him had averaged 20 or more at age 40; LeBron James later surpassed the figure with 24.4 points at the same age.

Overall production

Across 142 games in Washington, Jordan averaged 21.2 points, even as his efficiency dipped from his Chicago prime. The Wizards finished 37-45 in both seasons, but Jordan’s late-career output underscored his durability and scoring touch long after most players retire.
