LOS ANGELES — LeBron James left his future open-ended after the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated, saying he will take time with his family before deciding whether to return next season.
“What is my future? … I don’t know what the future holds for me,” the 41-year-old forward told reporters in the locker room. “As it stands tonight, I’ll sit back and recalibrate with my family.”
James did not provide a timetable for a decision. “When the time comes, you guys will know what I decide,” he added.
His uncertainty looms over a pivotal Lakers offseason. Several key players are headed to free agency, and the organization is attempting to shape a roster around Luka Doncic while weighing salary-cap options. Whether Los Angeles preserves cap space, brings back the current core, or pursues a major overhaul will partly hinge on James’s choice.
For now, the four-time NBA champion is in no rush, opting for a pause after a season that showed promise but ended abruptly.
